When guests ask us about the best time to visit Val d\u2019Orcia, we like to start with another question: what would you love to do? Walk through the hills, spend an evening outdoors, discover life in the vineyards or linger over a meal? The right season depends on the kind of stay you have in mind.<\/p>\n

Spring, for days on foot<\/h2>\n

If your ideal holiday means walks and stops in small villages, start with spring. As the countryside comes to life, there is every reason to spend time outdoors, between the hills of Val d\u2019Orcia and the woods of Monte Amiata. You could spend one day in Castiglione and Rocca d\u2019Orcia, and another walking a stretch of the Via Francigena suited to your pace.<\/p>\n

Summer, for villages and evenings outdoors<\/h2>\n

In summer, we like to make room for early mornings and evenings. A visit to San Quirico d\u2019Orcia, a relaxed afternoon at the agriturismo and an unhurried dinner can be a day well spent. For walking or cycling, choose your route and departure time with the day\u2019s heat and weather in mind.<\/p>\n

Autumn, to discover the rhythm of the countryside<\/h2>\n

Choose autumn if food is part of the reason you travel. Mushrooms, chestnuts and newly pressed olive oil are part of the area\u2019s autumn cooking, while the chestnut and beech woods of Monte Amiata change colour. On the estate, the grape harvest and work in the cellar make this a lively time: a lovely opportunity for wine lovers to ask questions and discover the story behind a glass.<\/p>\n

On Saturday 17 October 2026 at 1 pm, we will share this moment at our end-of-harvest lunch. The people who work across our wine-growing and winemaking team will join a limited number of visiting guests at the table. The price is \u20ac50 per person; the event page has the programme and booking details.<\/p>\n

Winter, for the quieter moments<\/h2>\n

If you prefer a quieter kind of trip, plan days around just a few stops: a village, a cultural visit and time to sit down for a meal. You could pair countryside views with the artworks at Castiglione d\u2019Orcia\u2019s Sala d\u2019Arte, or plan a day at a thermal spa. Before settling on dates, check opening times for the places you want to visit and leave room to adapt your plans to the weather.<\/p>\n

Two or three days, without rushing<\/h2>\n

For a first stay, our suggestion is simple: spend a day in Castiglione and Rocca d\u2019Orcia, another in San Quirico and Bagno Vignoni, and keep a third day for what you enjoy most. That might be a trail on Monte Amiata, a cultural visit or simply time at the agriturismo. Our guides help you choose your stops and find them on the map.<\/p>\n

For us, a stay and a meal belong to the same idea of hospitality. We grow native Tuscan grape varieties at around 600 metres above sea level, focusing on the character of individual vineyard parcels.
