Val d’Orcia in autumn: the pleasure of slowing down in November

Vine rows and hills at Terre di Giorgio
The landscape of Terre di Giorgio, among vineyards and hills.

November invites you to slow down in Val d’Orcia. The days grow shorter, the light softens and the hills draw your attention once more. There is no need for a long list of things to do: a village, a walk, a pause at the thermal springs. Then the pleasure of returning to the countryside.

It is a lovely time for a few days to yourself, away from the rush. At Terre di Giorgio – Villa La Palazzetta, autumn means sleeping among the hills, beginning the day with breakfast and letting the weather help you choose where to go.

The colours, the light and time to enjoy them

Autumn’s beauty is not confined to a single view. It is there in the vine rows after harvest, in fields changing colour, in long shadows across the hillsides and in the woods towards Monte Amiata. The leaves follow the rhythm of the season: between October and November the landscape changes, at a slightly different pace each year.

If you enjoy photography, keep your plans simple: choose just a few places and allow time to stop along the way. For a walk, bring suitable shoes and choose your route according to the weather and daylight hours. You do not need to reach a summit to take home a special memory.

Villages to explore at your own pace

Castiglione d’Orcia and Rocca d’Orcia are a good place to begin: stone streets, glimpses of the countryside between houses and two fortresses shaping the skyline. San Quirico d’Orcia invites a walk through its historic centre; Bagno Vignoni, a quiet moment beside the pool at the heart of its square.

Rather than rushing from village to village, give yourself time to step into a small shop, enjoy a drink and wander back. Our guides to Val d’Orcia will help you choose the places that suit your interests.

Warm thermal waters and seasonal flavours

A visit to the thermal springs can become the heart of your day. Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo are two places to discover between Val d’Orcia and Amiata. Before setting out, choose the spa or area you would like to visit and check access arrangements and opening times. Book treatments or thermal pools directly with the provider.

Autumn also brings chestnuts on the slopes of Amiata and freshly pressed olive oil. These flavours tell the story of farming here and invite you to discover the area around a table and in its small shops. For seasonal events, explore Visit Tuscany’s autumn suggestions.

November at Terre di Giorgio

In November 2026, we look forward to welcoming you to Terre di Giorgio with breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30, before you set off to explore the villages or enjoy the thermal baths. On your return, the bar is open from 15:00 to 19:00, with local cured meats and cheeses to accompany a relaxing break.

Following the rhythm of the seasons, our restaurant takes a break from 1 November 2026 to 25 March 2027 and reopens on Friday 26 March. During this period, whenever the agriturismo is open, breakfast and the bar with cured meat and cheese boards remain available. We will be happy to help you find lovely places for lunch and dinner nearby.

Two nights already give you time to slow down; a few more days leave room to change your plans with the weather and your mood. Discover our rooms and suites, or tell us about the stay you have in mind. We would be happy to help you choose.
