December in Val d’Orcia: a countryside break, all the way to New Year’s Eve
Between the commitments of December, there may still be room for a little escape. An unhurried breakfast, a village to explore on foot, time to sit down to a meal: that is how we like to picture a winter stay at Terre di Giorgio. Even just one night, if that is the time you can set aside for yourself.
Three ideas for a day nearby
Start in Castiglione d’Orcia: Piazza del Vecchietta and the streets of the historic centre are a good introduction to the village. Keep your plans relaxed, with time to stop whenever something catches your eye.
In Bagno Vignoni a square filled with water lies at the heart of the village. The historic pool is a sight to admire, but bathing is not permitted. If you would like a thermal bath, you can arrange a visit to one of the establishments: for example, La Posta offers day access to its thermal pools and spa, with no overnight stay required, for guests aged 14 and over. Choose the option that suits you and book directly with the establishment.
If you would rather spend a few hours enjoying art, in Pienza the Palazzo Borgia – Museo Diocesano houses works of the Sienese school and the cope of Pope Pius II. It makes a lovely indoor alternative. The museum’s published calendar lists daily opening from 26 December to 6 January; for other dates and opening times, check the official page before setting out.
Back at Terre di Giorgio
During this period, we welcome you to our six guest rooms and the Giullare suite, with breakfast served from 7:30 to 9:30. The bar is open from 15:00 to 19:00, also serving boards of cured meats and cheeses. The Terre di Giorgio restaurant will be closed from 1 to 20 November 2026 inclusive. From 21 November, it will open on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays for lunch from 12:30 to 14:30 and dinner from 19:30 to 21:30. On Sunday 10 January 2027, it will open for lunch only; after the seasonal break, it will reopen on Friday 26 March 2027. There will also be special openings on 8 December 2026 and 6 January 2027, for lunch only from 12:30 to 14:30; the restaurant will be closed for dinner on both dates.
Choose a weekend or come during the week, when the restaurant kitchen takes a break from Tuesday to Friday, except for the special lunch openings on 8 December 2026 and 6 January 2027; breakfast, the bar and light bites remain available. December, a chance to get together
Lunch with colleagues or a dinner to round off the year together can become a little countryside escape. In December, we arrange company lunches and dinners on request. Write to us with your date, the number of guests and whether you would also like to stay overnight: we will use these details to put together a proposal. If you have a date outside our usual opening days in mind, let’s discuss it.
New Year’s Eve with live piano music
On the evening of 31 December 2026, we will host a New Year’s Eve dinner accompanied by live piano music. The restaurant will open specially for the occasion, even though it falls on a Thursday. If you would like to join us, write to us: the menu, price and booking arrangements will be shared as soon as they are finalised. Booking a room does not automatically include the New Year’s Eve dinner.

Choose your dates
This winter season, our six guest rooms and the Giullare suite welcome you up to and including the night of 9 January 2027, with departure on 10 January. The agriturismo will reopen on 19 March 2027, along with the Regio suite, which will be closed from 1 November 2026.
